The Matakana Coast stretches from Puhoi to Pakiri and is dotted with scenic bays. It incorporates Mahurangi West, Warkworth, Snells Beach, Leigh, Sandspit and of course Matakana itself. The Matakana Coasts’s beautiful beaches, boutique vineyards and local arts scene make this region a wonderful destination.
Drive through rolling countryside to boutique wineries. Wander through Matakana Village, home to the superb farmers’ market, gorgeous shops, a boutique cinema and great cafés. And don’t miss the superb Matakana Farmers’ Market on the river’s edge for gourmet goodies.
Visit some of the beautiful white-sand beaches along Matakana’s stunning coastline. Walk along a deserted bay or picnic under a tree with your treats from the farmers’ market.
Get back to nature. Make the most of Matakana’s beautiful setting. Explore Tāwharanui and Scandrett Regional Parks and go swimming, walking, fishing, mountain biking or bird watching.
And south of Mahurangi West?
Puhoi is about 2kms south of Mahurangi West Road and is a picturesque historical gem. Get a glimpse into early village life in rural Auckland and enjoy the historical walks in this small community. Go kayaking up Puhoi River or stop for lunch or ice-creams at the renowned café and cheese shop or enjoy oyster and chips at the lively pub. The markets on last last Sunday of every months are also a must.
Waiwera is perfect for a soak in the thermal hot pools. Just 15 minutes from our B&B you splash around with the kids or relax tired muscles in the natural geothermal pools. Enjoy a film in the outdoor movie pool, ride the hydroslides or visit the luxury day spa and sauna.
Orewa is just 25 minutes north of Auckland and about 20 m inutes south of Mahurangi West. It boasts a picturesque 3 kilometre stretch of golden beach. It’s the perfect place for a family day out, with playgrounds, great cycling tracks, safe swimming, beautiful coastal landscapes and a relaxed atmosphere.
