North Auckland Accommodation – Warkworth & Matakana
Warkworth
Warkworth is regarded by many as one of the most picturesque towns in North Auckland. About 55 minutes drive north of Auckland and about 15 minutes from the stunning Mahurangi West peninsula (Jameson Bay, Opahi Bay, Sullivan Bay). Warkworth sits quietly on the Mahurangi River. It is known for its boutique shops, cafes, bars, river walk and wooden wharf. Warkworth has a relaxed atmosphere and a quiet charm all of its own.
It is only a short drive from Warkworth to Sandspit, Snells Beach, Mahurangi West, Algies Bay, Matakana, Point Wells, Omaha Beach, Ti Point, Matheson Bay, Leigh and Pakiri. From our doorstep we have some of the most fantastic swimming, surfing, diving, boating and walking in addition to a wine trail that has become legend in north Auckland.
Matakana
The small village of Matakana is located approximately 10 minutes from Warkworth. Originally the major industry was timber milling but later farming was the mainstay of life in Matakana. Today it is the wine trail on the now famous wine coast of Matakana and the tourist trade along with the cafes, fantastic movie theatres and restaurants that is the focus of attention at Matakana. Each Saturday the Matakana market buzzes with the sounds of music and the great number of people simply enjoying the atmosphere. Matakana is also the gateway to Omaha Beach, Point Well, the Takatu Peninsula and Tawharanui Regional, and on to Whangateau, Ti Point, Matheson Bay, Leigh, Pakiri & Te Ari.
